WEIRD

Football is weird, and by weird I mean awesome. That's my 8th grader's mitt there - you'd think that as a parent I'd be concerned at the sight of something like this after a day of conditioning but oddly enough, pride drove me take this photo and write a post about it. That's the weird part right? Sacrifice everything to protect your child in one breath and "go out there and rip his spleen out!" the next. We've been involved in other sports through the years and still continue with baseball but there's something about this battlefield sport of football that overshadows the other games. It takes a different breed, it's definitely one of those "you have to be a part of it to understand it" things. Certainly to succeed in any contest it requires skill, dedication and training but football is just... different. Maybe it's because there's more "team" to a football team, a true band of brothers, not a group of "individuals" running about on the pitch taking their shirts off after every score screaming "look at me, look at meeee!"... well, not until the pros that is. 1, 2, 3, EAGLES!!!

PRIDE

The Falcon soared, the Galaxie was far out, the Firebird was well, on fire - so what happened to aspirational automotive brands? What the hell is a Venza or an Avalon? The Edge isn't exactly edgy and what is actually called Aspire should have been named Bar-low. So why don't auto makers think consumers would want to express their own personal "brands" through the badge any more? I haven't heard a kid say yet "man I'm gonna work my ass off so when I turn 16 I can buy a charcoal grey Alero, that'll be bad ass." It's a little hard to drive excitement and loyalty when the industry gelds what was once the sexiest market in consumerism. Was there really a carefully considered reason for this? "Research indicates..." - did consumers somehow tell them that they don't want to be excited about their cars any more? Lost in translation perhaps? Me thinks there's a solid rational reason brands like the Mustang and Ram are still here and probably will be forever. At the same time, the modern Charger is proof that if you bury something and leave it there long enough to rot it's probably going to stink if you try to bring it back. I feel like the ART of "branding" has become more like the ACT of putting a brand on something. With that art lost, we have in effect desensitized the masses and caused them to lack desire and passion for brands of pride. It's sad because there's no good reason for it. Let's bring the Fury back people!

THE OLE ONE-TWO

Not to throw my leg over the single speed trend-wagon here but I just love bikes and personally I think that when tastefully done with a classic aesthetic in mind these single speed builds can make for super fun, ride-able art. If you're into getting all fixied and going urban bombing and whatnot, that's cool but I'm too old for that shit. Me and my ride have a good relationship, we understand each other. KEEP ON BIKIN' - Hmpt, the bloggitude seems to be developing  ->  keep on movin', fast or slow doesn't matter because like a shark, on some level, if you stop you die.

PROPER

So, yes... hello  ->  if you have stumbled upon my little bloggy situation here I feel it would only be proper to point out that it's brand-spankin' new and the content displayed so far is for test purposes while I figure out what this blog will be if anything at all. So, for display's sake, here's a swell photo I captured of a classic drag wheel. Maybe that's where it will go, wheels... or maybe just about brand-spankin' - we'll see.
